The north east part of Kalimatan is one of the remotest places in Indonesia. Here we can find an archipelago called Derawan islands that offers a world class diving and among its islands, three of them are truly spectacular: Maratua, Kakaban and Sangalaki. In its deep blue sea, we can find from sharks to giant schools of Barracudas or Jacks, large concentration of Mantas and the biggest jelly fish lake in the world as well as turtles by the hundreds. All of it surrounded by a paradisiacal landscape, but away from the usual routes that makes you rarely meet other divers under the water. The terrain at Derawan is varied from walls and fringing reefs to caverns. Big sea turtles, whitetip, leopard and nurse sharks, schooling barrucudas, napoleon wrasses, cuttle fish, Spanish mackerel, jacks, batfish and ornamental reef fish hang out in record amounts. Over 50 species of hard coral were found on one reef. Turtles also come on land every night to lay eggs, hatchlings are often encountered just below the cottages and restaurant.

Tour Itenary :

Day 01  ARRIVAL IN BALIKPAPAN
Meet at airport and directly transfer to hotel in Balikpapan for check in. Free at your own leisure.
Day 02  BALIKPAPAN – BERAU – DERAWAN
Breakfast at hotel and free at own leisure till the proper time for transferring to airport for your flight to Berau. The flight using ATR 42 aircraft occupies for 40 passengers with two propellers on both wings make little bit noisy. Using ear plugs is recommended. Arrive at Berau town and directly transfer to Derawan island by speed boat for check in on lodge. In the peaceful afternoon, we can dive and snorkeling around Derawan island or exploring the daily life of villagers. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 03  DERAWAN – KAKABAN – DERAWAN
Breakfast at lodge then proceed to Kakaban island by boat for diving and exploring the wondrous sea garden with 4 different species of jelly fish that can be found by thousands. Afterwards, we will back to the lodge for overnight. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 04  DERAWAN – SANGGALAKI
Breakfast at lodge then proceed to Sangalaki Island for diving on the site which is called as the Capital of The Mantas Rays, including kinds of exotic fish, such as; the Mantas, Napoleons, purple sea horses, tunitates, dwarf scorpion fishes, and not to forget the coral sea garden which is fascinating. In the peaceful evening, we can explore the turtles lay their eggs on the beach. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight at local house. (B,L,D)
Day 05  SANGALAKI – MARATUA – KAKABAN – DERAWAN
Breakfast at local house then proceed to Maratua Atoll, on the north-eastern part of Maratua Island, we will dive at the channel or some people call it Big Fish Country, coordination with the tide is needed to dive at this site, best time to dive is when the tide is coming up as current pushes into the channel. Next, boat depart to Kakaban island by boat for diving and exploring the wondrous sea garden with 4 different species of jelly fish that can be found by thousands. Afterwards, we will head back to Derawan island for overnight. Free at own leisure. Lunch will be served en route, dinner and overnight on lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 06  DERAWAN – BALIKPAPAN – DEPARTURE
Breakfast at lodge then transfer to Berau airport for your flight to Balikpapan. Arrive at Balikpapan and free at your own leisure till the time of your flight to the next destination. (B)
